Connecting Residents to Training and Employment

Excitement was in the air on Monday September 22, 2014 at the Village at Beechwood in Lancaster, Calif., as residents, members of the affordable housing community, and city and government officials came together to celebrate the kick-off of a $2.46 million retrofit project and to honor residents that recently completed an Introduction to Green Careers & Solar Installation workshop hosted by Everyday Energy and LINC Housing.

The celebration included a groundbreaking celebrating the retrofit project’s launch and a graduation ceremony for residents completing a 2-day workshop

This free workshop included 2-days of classroom and hands-on training for residents of LINC Housing to learn about green careers, the basics of solar installation and construction job safety. Participants also gained insight for what it is like to work on a solar installation crew by participating in a safety meeting, tools inspection, and installing panels on a mock-roof.

The workshop also included a partnership with Labor Ready, a construction placement agency that is providing job placement to course participants that qualify. Opportunities with Labor Ready include possible work on one of Everyday Energy’s projects or other construction and renewable energy projects in the area.
